About Rebekah Narewski
I am intrigued by the shape and posture of the human figure and how emotion can be expressed through movement and stance. My past as a gymnast allows me to understand the abilities of the body. This I exaggerate by extending and contorting the figure or abstracting it down to a minimum; accentuating the physical or emotional feeling that is taking place.
My colourful and vibrant decoration is intended to draw the eye through the form, emphasising the shape and bodily expression of the figure. My colours are chosen to what I think portrays the emotion that the figure is holding; often creating a sense of fun and excitement.
I often work by photographing the figure and then abstracting and expressing the shape through a series of sketches. These ideas are then created using slabs of clay rolled, shaped and constructed to form surreal abstractions of the figure.
